Air India flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London from Ahmedabad, crashed moments after takeoff on June 12, killing 241 of the 242 people on board. The aircraft struck a hostel building at BJ Medical College, resulting in a fiery explosion.

The airline confirmed: “Of the 242 aboard, there are 241 confirmed fatalities. The sole survivor is being treated in hospital.”

The passenger list included 169 Indian nationals, 53 British, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian. The tragedy has left families grieving across multiple countries.

The pilot’s final transmission revealed a critical emergency. According to the London Evening Standard, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal radioed, “no thrust… unable to lift,” when the plane was under 650 feet in the air.
