The crash also took the life of Arjun Patoliya, a UK father returning from India after fulfilling his late wife’s final wish. He had just immersed her ashes in the sacred Narmada River and was flying back to their daughters, aged 4 and 8. Now, both girls are orphaned.
Air India, owned by Tata Group, pledged ₹96 lakh (around $116,000) per victim’s family. But public reaction was strong. One person wrote, “Do you think money is going to make it better?” Others criticized the payout as too low and demanded legal accountability.
“Keep your 1 crore. It’s not equal to lives lost,” read another comment. Many accused the airline of negligence, calling the compensation a PR stunt.
Still, amid the outrage, many shared heartfelt memories. “Rest in peace Akeel 🙏… Will never forget your infectious smile,” wrote Jemma Laine Ward. “You were an amazing and loving soul,” added Asif Lala.
A memorial service is planned at Swindon’s Hindu Temple to honor the victims, with people of all backgrounds expected to gather in unity and grief.
