**Five Members of Grupo Fugitivo Found Murdered Near Texas Border**
Five members of the regional Mexican band *Grupo Fugitivo* were found dead after going missing on May 25. They had been kidnapped near Reynosa, a city “plagued by cartel violence,” while heading to a scheduled performance.
Authorities discovered their remains on the outskirts of Reynosa and arrested nine suspects linked to the Gulf Cartel. Though the motive is still unclear, reports suggest the bodies were burned, raising further concerns.
*Grupo Fugitivo*, known for cumbia and corridos, was not confirmed to have ties to drug-glorifying music. Their last contact with family said they were en route to the show. “After that, there was no further contact.”
Their deaths shocked the community and sparked demands for justice. Protesters blocked the international bridge between Reynosa and Pharr, Texas. A public prayer was held in a local cathedral.
This tragedy echoes a 2018 case when another band, *Los Norteños de Río Bravo*, was similarly kidnapped and killed, highlighting the ongoing security crisis in Tamaulipas.
