Air India Flight Crashes After Takeoff, Killing Many

An Air India passenger jet carrying 242 people crashed just five minutes after takeoff from Ahmedabad, India, en route to London Gatwick. The Boeing 787-8 aircraft went down in a residential area called Meghani Nagar on Thursday afternoon.

Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda confirmed that “many people were killed” in the tragic crash. The exact number of casualties is still unknown, and rescue operations are ongoing.

In a post on X, Air India confirmed:
“Flight AI171, from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in an accident today after take-off… carrying 242 passengers and crew members.”
Among them were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British, 1 Canadian, and 7 Portuguese.
