Israel-Iran live updates: Trump’s 2-week window is chance at diplomacy, official says

A week after Israel launched a surprise strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities—killing several scientists and top military figures—tensions continue to escalate. Iran has since retaliated with missile attacks that killed 23 people and injured over 600 in Israel, according to Israeli emergency services.

Despite the ongoing violence, the U.S. has not been involved in the initial strike. President Trump confirmed, *“It’s possible we could get involved,”* but no action has been taken yet. The White House says Trump will make a decision *“within the next two weeks”* on whether the U.S. will intervene if Iran refuses to negotiate.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated, *“The president’s top priority is ensuring Iran doesn’t obtain a nuclear weapon.”* She added that Trump expects European leaders meeting with Iran on Friday to reinforce that message.

Meanwhile, the White House claims Iran could be just *“a couple of weeks”* away from having what it needs to make a nuclear weapon. U.S. airlines have suspended flights to the region as a precaution.

Iran, for its part, has accused Israel of committing a war crime by attacking its nuclear site. The situation remains extremely volatile, with possible diplomacy or military escalation ahead.
