Tensions between the U.S. and Iran have escalated sharply after former President Donald Trump ordered strikes on three major Iranian nuclear sites—Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordo. In response, Iran launched six missiles at U.S. bases in Qatar and Iraq on June 23, calling it “a mighty and successful response.”
Iran’s state TV confirmed the attack on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. However, Qatar’s foreign ministry said its air defenses “successfully thwarted the attack and intercepted the Iranian missiles,” adding no casualties occurred. They called the strike a “flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty.”
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared on X: “We neither initiated the war nor seek it. But we will not leave invasion… without answer.”
A Trump official said the administration is “closely monitoring” threats to Al Udeid, which hosts 10,000 U.S. troops. Trump, who recently visited the base, hinted at regime change in Iran, asking on Truth Social: “If the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change???”
The conflict follows earlier Israeli attacks on Iran’s military targets. Iran has since launched over 370 missiles at Israel, killing 24 and wounding over 500 people.
