Found these bumps on my son’s scalp. Doctor appt is so far away. What’s should I do? They look really painful

Finding strange bumps on your child’s scalp can be worrying, especially if a doctor isn’t immediately available. These bumps may come from common conditions like folliculitis, boils, or cysts. Folliculitis appears as “tiny, red, itchy pimples” caused by irritation or infection. Boils are “painful, pus-filled masses” that may grow larger than 2 cm and need medical care. Sebaceous cysts, though harmless, feel like smooth lumps under the skin.

If your child complains of itching, pain, or if you see pus, folliculitis or boils might be the cause. “Keeping your scalp clean and avoiding irritants can help” prevent these conditions. You should seek immediate medical attention if there’s fever, spreading swelling, or trouble breathing or swallowing.

Home remedies can help with minor bumps. Warm compresses and diluted tea tree oil may reduce pain and swelling. “Aloe vera gel is another soothing option.” Avoid scratching and use mild shampoos.

To prevent scalp issues, maintain good hygiene. Teach kids to wash their hair regularly and not to share personal items like combs or hats. Social media hacks may sound helpful, but “some… might upset the scalp’s natural pH,” so always check with a doctor. Keep symptom notes and photos for your next medical visit.
