A deadly tornado struck Clark Mills, New York, before dawn on June 22, 2025, killing three people and destroying homes. Among the victims were 6-year-old twin sisters Emily and Kenni Bisson, who were trapped with their mother, Kayleigh, when a giant tree crashed into their rental home. “She was yelling, ‘Get my kids out!’” recalled neighbor Jared Bowman, who tried to help.
The EF-1 tornado, with winds of 105 mph, tore a 2.43-mile path through the small community, leaving behind fallen trees, destroyed buildings, and snapped power lines. Another resident, Shelly Johnson, 50, died when a tree fell on her house while she slept.
At Clinton Elementary School, where the twins were in first grade, Superintendent Christopher Clancy shared, “Our hearts are with all of the families and loved ones affected by this tragedy.” School was canceled Monday, with counseling made available to students.
A GoFundMe for Kayleigh, described as a single mom who “lost everything,” raised over \$308,000. The twins were known for their love of sports, dance, and joyful energy.
Governor Hochul declared a state of emergency in 32 counties due to the storm and coming heatwave. Emergency crews continue recovery efforts in the devastated town.
