9-Year-Old Girl Dies After Being Crushed by Falling Tree in Green Bay

Rose Elizabeth Hendricks, 9, from Green Bay, Wisconsin, was killed on June 23, 2025, when a tree fell on her during a thunderstorm. She and her brother had just returned from a grocery trip when powerful winds, reaching 58 mph, brought down a neighbor’s tree. “The wind just picked up,” her mother Jayme Denamur told NBC26. “It fell directly on her, barely missing her brother.”

Neighbors tried to lift the tree but needed special equipment. Firefighters arrived after 3:30 p.m. and freed Rose using a floor jack. She was conscious but seriously injured and died later that night at St. Vincent Hospital.

Jayme shared, “She fought until she couldn’t no more. She’s a miracle baby—wasn’t supposed to survive birth.” Her father, Richard Krystof, added, “She made the day better if it was a bad day.”

The family asked the city to save a piece of the tree as a memorial. A GoFundMe has raised over \$16,000 to cover funeral costs. Rose was remembered for her love of art, video games, softball, and her protective nature toward her brother. “I will never stop thinking about you,” her mother wrote online.
