Two sisters, 13-year-old Blair and 11-year-old Brooke Harber, were found dead holding hands after flash floods swept through Texas Hill Country. Their touching story has drawn national sorrow.
The Dallas family was vacationing in Hunt, Texas, when heavy rains hit around 3:30 a.m., sending floodwaters crashing through their cabin. Brooke’s final message to her father and grandparents was: *“I love you.”*
The girls were staying with grandparents Mike and Charlene Harber. Parents RJ and Annie Harber escaped through a broken window and tried to reach their daughters, even borrowing a neighbor’s kayak, but the current was too strong. Rescuers found the sisters 15 miles downstream. Their grandparents are still missing.
The girls attended St. Rita’s Catholic School, where their mother works. Blair was praised for her *“kindness and intellect,”* while Brooke was remembered for her joyful spirit. They brought their rosaries on the trip, a sign of their strong faith.
With over 80 dead, the Harber sisters’ story has become a symbol of the tragedy. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the grieving family.
