A North Carolina family of four died in a tragic plane crash on July 7, 2025, just one mile from Raleigh Executive Jetport. Travis and Candace Buchanan, both 35, and their two children were flying home to Sanford from Florida when their single-engine Cirrus SR22T crashed in a field. The pilot had reported engine, navigation, and communication issues shortly before the crash.
Investigators from the NTSB are reviewing the wreckage, pilot’s flight history, and the 72 hours before the accident. The wreckage is being moved to Tennessee for further analysis.
The Buchanans were beloved in Sanford, known for Buchanan Farms and their community involvement. “So blessed for the daily hugs from sweet Aubrey, and the honor to teach Walker,” said teacher Kirstin Schwader. “They were building a safe, healthy space for their family and the community,” added Andrea Adame.
Just days earlier, on June 29, a Cessna 441 crashed in Trumbull County, Ohio, killing all six on board, including three generations of the Weller family and two pilots. James Weller Jr., CEO of Liberty Steel Industries, was among the victims. The NTSB is also investigating this crash.
