Couple makes heartbreaking confession after 100 people died at their wedding

Haneen and Revan’s wedding in Qaraqosh, Iraq, turned tragic when a fire broke out during their reception, killing over 100 guests and injuring at least 150 others.

The couple was dancing before nearly 900 guests when Revan heard crackling sounds and saw the nylon ceiling melting. “Only a few seconds were needed,” he said. Though fireworks were initially blamed, Revan believes an electrical short circuit may have started the blaze.

Panic spread instantly. Revan tried to save Haneen as guests trampled one another. Haneen suffered leg injuries and lost ten family members, including her mother and brother. Her father was critically injured.

The venue had just one unusable fire extinguisher, and the ceiling was made of flammable material that violated safety codes. The hall was quickly engulfed in flames, and parts of it collapsed.

Authorities arrested 14 people, including those responsible for the fireworks. Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani promised strict punishment and stronger safety checks.

The couple, now emotionally shattered, has left their hometown. “We are dead inside,” Revan said. Haneen has not spoken since. Their wedding, once a day of joy, is now a haunting reminder of the cost of ignoring basic safety standards.
