Why are your veins suddenly bulging and visible?

**What Bulging Veins Can Reveal About Your Health (Simplified)**

Bulging veins are often harmless and caused by aging, exercise, heat, genetics, sun exposure, tight clothes, or excess weight. But if they appear with *“discoloration or pain,”* it’s best to consult a doctor.

Most commonly, bulging veins are *“varicose veins—swollen, twisted vessels”* seen in the legs. These form when blood pools in weakened veins. Risk factors include pregnancy, obesity, smoking, genetics, or sitting and standing for long periods.

Treatment varies depending on severity. Options include *“lifestyle changes, compression stockings, leg elevation, injections, or surgery.”*

If untreated, varicose veins can lead to complications such as *“venous ulcers, blood clots, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), superficial thrombophlebitis, or pulmonary embolism.”* Some of these are potentially life-threatening.

While not always preventable, you can reduce your risk by staying active, managing your weight, avoiding smoking, and wearing loose clothing around the waist and legs.
