Rosaura García Moreno, a 20-year-old nursing student from Tuxtepec, Oaxaca, became a hero by donating her organs after being diagnosed with brain death. Following a serious car accident, doctors informed her parents of her condition, and they agreed to donate her organs to help others.

The Mexican Social Security Institute’s High Specialty Medical Unit (UMAE) at Veracruz’s Specialty Hospital No. 14 performed the organ removal surgery. Rosaura’s kidneys and corneas helped patients in Veracruz, while her liver was transferred to the Siglo XXI UMAE in Mexico City.

Rosaura was described as someone who “lived up to her calling to save lives” until the very end. Her selfless act highlights the life-changing power of organ donation: “Up to eight lives can be saved and fifty more people’s lives can be improved by a single donor.”

Her story is a powerful reminder of how one person’s gift can impact many, saving and improving the lives of dozens. Rosaura’s legacy continues through those who received her organs, honoring her compassion and bravery.
