Mom of trans child speaks out after girls’ volleyball team forfeited and refused to play against her

A California high school volleyball game was canceled after Riverside Poly refused to face Jurupa Valley’s team because it included transgender athlete AB Hernandez. The school said: “We remain committed to providing a safe, positive environment for all student-athletes,” but parents told Fox Digital the real reason was Hernandez’s inclusion.

At a school board meeting, Riverside official Amanda Vickers compared the situation to Payton McNabb, a former player injured by a trans athlete. Hernandez’s mother, Nereyda, responded: “My daughter is not the problem. The problem is coordinated external efforts… using religion as a shield for discrimination.” She accused Vickers of having “entertained and welcomed harassment.”

Hernandez has faced protests before, including heckling at a track meet where adults shouted so loudly it caused a false start. Speaking about the hostility, Hernandez said: “I’m still a child, you’re an adult, and for you to act like a child shows how you are as a person.”

Former president Donald Trump also weighed in, warning: “Any California school district that doesn’t adhere to our Transgender policies, will not be funded.”
