MINNEAPOLIS SHOOTER’S MOTHER LAWYERS UP — REFUSES TO TALK TO POLICE

Mary Grace Westman, mother of the Minneapolis school shooter, has hired attorney Ryan Garry, a lawyer known for representing high-profile clients. Garry said Westman is “completely distraught” and needs guidance in handling the tragedy’s legal and emotional aftermath. He stressed she “bears no responsibility” for her child’s actions but is facing intense public scrutiny.

Investigators have interviewed relatives and friends but not Westman. Police Chief Brian O’Hara noted her cooperation could provide key context, though she has chosen silence. Garry explained she is exercising her rights, focusing on shock and grief, and that her refusal “should not be seen as obstruction.”

Westman’s ties to Annunciation Catholic School run deep. She once worked there, and her child, Robin—who later transitioned and identified as female—graduated in 2017.

The shooting left two children dead and 17 injured, intensifying debates on school safety and mental health. Garry said her legal team will cooperate carefully while protecting her well-being.
