Detectives believe Westman arrived at the church in a van registered to their father, whose Minneapolis home was later searched by police. Seized items included a tactical vest, two computer drives, and documents that may be important to the investigation.
The attack occurred during morning Mass, with parishioners scrambling for cover as the assailant opened fire inside the sanctuary. Two children were killed, and 18 others were injured. Westman died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The community has been left deeply affected as authorities continue to investigate the events leading to the attack.
Investigators have yet to interview Westman’s mother, Mary Grace Westman, who, through her attorney, expressed distress over the incident and denied any involvement.
