Be Very Careful: If You Notice This Skin Growth, It Could Be Serious

A common skin growth might look harmless, but experts warn it could signal something serious. Skin tags, small soft bumps that often appear on the neck, eyelids, underarms, or groin, are usually harmless. However, “if you notice sudden changes in size, color, or bleeding, it’s important to get checked.”

Doctors say skin tags can be linked to health issues like diabetes, obesity, or hormonal imbalances. “They may also be a sign of insulin resistance,” which can increase the risk of type 2 diabetes. While most people simply remove them for cosmetic reasons, their presence can sometimes reveal hidden health problems.

Treatment is simple. Dermatologists may freeze, cut, or burn them off, but experts warn against home removal methods that can cause infection or scarring. “Never attempt to remove them yourself without medical advice.”

Not all skin growths are skin tags. Some may be warts, moles, or even early signs of skin cancer. If a growth looks unusual or painful, doctors stress that “early detection can save lives.”

Overall, while skin tags are usually nothing to worry about, any unusual changes deserve attention. When in doubt, experts advise: “Always consult a dermatologist.”
