Donald Trump’s ‘wildly inappropriate’ comments about Kate Middleton during state dinner spark backlash

Donald Trump has faced backlash for remarks about Kate Middleton during his second state visit to the UK, an unusual honor since most presidents only make one. At the September 17 state dinner, hosted by King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Kate, Trump delivered a speech that critics say struck the wrong tone.

Standing beside King Charles, Trump praised William and then turned to Kate: “So radiant and so healthy, so beautiful, it’s a really great honour, thank you.” Many noted the “healthy” remark seemed to reference her recent cancer battle. Kate revealed her diagnosis in March 2024 and announced remission in January 2025.

Social media users quickly called the comments inappropriate. One wrote: “He needs to quit talking about how beautiful the Princess of Wales is. It’s good to see you looking healthy. That’s it full stop.” Another said: “Radiant, healthy, and beautiful made me cringe so hard I broke teeth.”

Others suggested Trump subtly snubbed Prince Harry by praising Charles for raising “a remarkable son” without mentioning him. Viewers also noted King Charles’ reaction, with one saying: “Charles literally laughed at his remarks to Catherine.”

Critics argue this continues Trump’s pattern of breaking royal protocol, recalling his 2018 visit when he walked in front of Queen Elizabeth II.
