What began as a honeymoon in the scenic hills of Shillong ended in tragedy. On May 20, businessman Raja Raghuvanshi arrived with his new wife, Sonam. Just days later, his decomposing body was found in a remote canyon — stripped of his wedding ring, identification, and life.

At first, suspicion fell on Raj Kushwaha, believed to be Sonam’s lover. But police soon revealed that “Sonam herself had orchestrated her husband’s death.”

Investigators say she lured three accomplices — Vishal Singh, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput — with promises of money. Phone records showed how Sonam tracked her husband’s movements and guided the men. Between May 23–24, they ambushed Raja and pushed him into the gorge.

Raj believed he was acting out of love, thinking that once Raja was gone, he and Sonam would be free. But investigators uncovered another twist: Sonam had yet another lover and “even planned to eliminate Raj once he had served his purpose.”

Her arrest on June 8 and reported confession exposed a chilling web of lies. What should have been the start of a marriage became a tale of betrayal and murder — where love turned to obsession, and trust to tragedy.
