Shocking footage captures flames bursting from a plane’s engines as terrified passengers describe sending ‘goodbye texts’

A Condor Airlines Boeing 757 traveling from Corfu, Greece, to Düsseldorf, Germany, made an emergency landing in Brindisi, Italy, after passengers saw “flames coming from the right wing” around 8 p.m., according to Bild. The aircraft had 273 passengers and eight crew members aboard and had been flying for about 40 minutes at 11,000 meters when the incident occurred.

Panic spread through the cabin, with some passengers sending “goodbye texts” to loved ones. “We were already in the air when it suddenly started — you could hear this really loud rattling,” said passenger Leah Steininger. Another passenger, Niklas Gelbhaar, noted, “The passengers remained calm, and the pilot kept us updated throughout the flight.”

Condor Airlines later clarified that passengers were not in real danger. “The reason was a parameter indication outside the normal range caused by a disturbance in the air flow supply to the engine,” the airline stated.

The flames seen were not from an engine fire but a visible “combustion process outside the engine” due to disrupted airflow.

After landing safely around 8:15 p.m., some travelers were stranded overnight since “there was insufficient hotel capacity in Brindisi,” but the airline provided vouchers, blankets, and reimbursements.
