“Grey’s Anatomy” star Eric Dane missed this year’s Emmys after suffering a fall linked to his ALS condition. “ALS is a nasty disease,” he told The Washington Post, explaining he was hospitalized during the ceremony for head stitches.
Dane revealed his ALS diagnosis in April 2025. The ALS Association describes it as a “rare, terminal neurodegenerative disorder” that causes progressive muscle loss. Although disappointed to miss the Emmys, he said, “It would have been great to see Jesse and get reunited with some of my peers… but there was nothing I could do about it.”
Co-star Jesse Williams praised him, saying, “He’s solid… and we have to be careful, you know, as men to still take care of ourselves.”
Dane said he felt compelled to share his diagnosis: “It wasn’t something I ever really wanted to do… Instead of letting people speculate what was happening, I just said it.” He received “a bigger outpouring of love and support” than ever before.
Now, Dane is raising awareness for ALS research, meeting lawmakers in Washington to support the “ACT for ALS.” Despite his condition—“My right side has completely stopped working… maybe a couple more months and I won’t have my left hand either”—he remains determined, saying he’s “grateful to have my loving family” and looks forward to returning to Euphoria.
