Zohran Mamdani has message for Trump after winning election

Zohran Mamdani, 34, has officially been elected as New York City’s new mayor, defeating Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa in a historic victory. He becomes the city’s first Muslim, first South Asian–heritage, and first African-born mayor, as well as the youngest in over a century.

The Queens assembly member secured more than 50% of the vote, while Cuomo received just over 40% and Sliwa 7%, according to The Guardian.

In his victory speech, Mamdani said: “The conventional wisdom would tell you that I am far from the perfect candidate. I am young, I am Muslim, I am a democratic socialist. And most damning of all, I refuse to apologise for any of this.” He vowed to “wake up each morning with a singular purpose: to make this city better for you than it was the day before.”

Addressing Donald Trump directly, he declared: “New York will remain a city of immigrants… If anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him.” He ended with: “So Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: Turn the volume up.”

Trump responded on Truth Social with a short post: “…AND SO IT BEGINS!”
