Sh0ck moment Boeing plane engine bursts into flames sparking emergency landing as passenger says ‘I sent goodbye texts’

A terrifying mid-air emergency occurred on August 16, 2025, when a Condor Boeing 757 departing Corfu, Greece, faced engine trouble just 40 minutes after takeoff en route to Düsseldorf, Germany. Flames were seen from the engine, prompting panic; one passenger sent “goodbye” texts to loved ones.

The plane had reached 36,000 feet when turbine airflow issues arose, according to WDR. Social media videos showed flames and loud booms during descent, heightening fears onboard and on the ground.

Passengers described the incident as harrowing. One told Bild, “The aircraft suddenly lost power for a few seconds and stopped climbing.” Another said the trauma made them believe it was the end, prompting messages to family.

Condor Airlines clarified the engine did not catch fire but “experienced a reaction at the back of the engine that triggered abnormal readings.” Pilots diverted to Brindisi, Italy, as a precaution. The airline emphasized passengers and crew were never in actual danger.

After landing, travelers were stranded overnight with limited hotel availability. Condor provided blankets, vouchers, and access to airport shops. The airline apologized, saying passenger safety is their top priority. The aircraft is undergoing a technical inspection to determine the exact cause of the engine issue.
