They sang THIS hit in 1958. When I hear it 60 years later? Oh, the memories

It’s 1958, President Eisenhower is in office, and rock & roll is taking shape. But the Chordettes — Janet, Alice, Lynn, and Jinny from Sheboygan — captivate audiences with their sweet harmonies on hits like “Mr. Sandman” and “Lollipop.” Their mostly a cappella style made them radio sensations.

In a live TV performance, often compared to a barbershop quartet, the group impresses with perfect timing. “Do you recall all of the song’s ‘bum-bum-bums’? You’ll be astounded to learn that each member of the group sings a single ‘bum’ in rapid succession.” Their precision and grace reflect both charm and a touch of old-fashioned elegance.

Though the lyrics ask Mr. Sandman to “bring me a dream” and “make him the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen,” the group’s performance remains lighthearted and playful.

Adding humor to the show, Mr. Sandman himself appears on screen, young and handsome, answering their call. It’s a clever, comedic twist that makes audiences smile while enjoying the timeless tune.

Even decades later, “Mr. Sandman” continues to enchant with its catchy rhythm, flawless harmony, and nostalgic innocence.
