He Saved Lives at Bondi — Now Doctors Reveal How Bad His Injuries Really Are

Ahmed Al-Ahmed, the man praised for disarming a gunman during the Bondi Beach attack, is recovering in hospital and says he has no regrets. Despite severe injuries, the 43-year-old has stated he would intervene again if faced with the same situation.

According to his former migration lawyer, Sam Issa, Al-Ahmed’s injuries are far more serious than first reported. Issa said he suffered five gunshot wounds and has undergone multiple surgeries, describing his condition as “critical and ongoing.” Doctors are still assessing the long-term impact.

Issa explained that Al-Ahmed currently has no feeling in his arm and may have nerve damage. While his recovery continues, the physical and emotional toll is significant. “He doesn’t regret what he did,” Issa said. “He told me he would do it again. But he is struggling right now. Our hero is not well at all.”

Footage of Al-Ahmed confronting gunman Sajid Akram and wrestling away his firearm spread rapidly online. Rather than using the weapon, he placed it aside as the attacker fled. Moments later, another gunman opened fire, and Al-Ahmed was struck while taking cover.

Al-Ahmed remains under care at St George Hospital as support continues to pour in from around the world. More than $1.2 million has been raised through crowdfunding, reflecting widespread admiration for his courage and selflessness.
