Lottery Winner Shocks Crowd by Claiming Jackpot in ‘Scream’ Costume

A man from Jamaica stunned onlookers after collecting his lottery jackpot while dressed head-to-toe in a “Scream” costume. Wearing the iconic mask, a white robe, and gloves, the winner picked up his prize — approximately 158 million Jamaican dollars (about $1.17 million USD) — at the Spanish Court Hotel in Kingston.

The unusual disguise had a clear purpose: anonymity.
“I didn’t want anyone to recognize me, not even my own family,” the winner explained.

In Jamaica, such precautions are not uncommon. Lottery winners often conceal their identities to avoid becoming targets of crime or facing pressure from relatives and acquaintances seeking financial help.

The man, identified only as Campbell, revealed he waited 54 days before claiming his winnings. The delay, he said, was due to overwhelming stress. He admitted the shock of winning caused him headaches and stomach pain for days after learning he held the winning ticket.

His dramatic appearance quickly went viral, highlighting the lengths some winners go to protect their safety and privacy. While the costume drew attention, it also underscored a serious reality — for many lottery winners, staying anonymous can be just as important as the prize itself.

The masked winner has since returned to private life, his identity still a mystery, proving that sometimes the safest way to celebrate a life-changing win is from behind a mask.
