On Thursday morning, an active shooter incident disrupted Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital near Detroit. Around 7:08 a.m., gunfire broke out in the parking garage, prompting police to urge the public to stay away due to “serious safety risks” and an active investigation.
Authorities confirmed the suspect was a hospital employee who shot a coworker. The victim, a 25-year-old man, was shot twice in the arm and taken to the emergency department, where he was treated and listed in “stable condition.” Officials said the injuries were not life-threatening.
The hospital immediately activated emergency protocols. Staff were told to “shelter in place,” patients were moved away from exposed areas, and visitors were instructed to remain where they were. Medical teams continued care while prioritizing safety.
A large law enforcement presence, including SWAT teams and other agencies, secured the area. Roads were closed, nearby neighborhoods were advised to shelter in place, and police conducted a full sweep of the hospital. Authorities later said there was “no ongoing threat” after the suspect was taken into custody.
Hospital leaders announced counseling services and enhanced security. While only one person was physically injured, officials acknowledged the emotional toll on staff and patients, highlighting ongoing concerns about workplace violence in healthcare settings.
