Police Urge the Public to Stay Away From This Area as a Major Emergency Unfolds

On Thursday morning, Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital, north of Detroit, was rocked by gunfire in its parking garage around 7:08 a.m. Reports spread quickly that someone had been shot, creating fear and confusion.

Authorities confirmed the shooter was a hospital employee who targeted a coworker. The victim, a 25-year-old man, “was shot twice in the arm and rushed to the emergency department,” where he was treated and listed in stable condition. Though his injuries were not life-threatening, the emotional impact on staff and patients was immediate.

The hospital activated emergency protocols, going into lockdown. Staff were told to shelter in place, patients were moved from exposed areas, and visitors were instructed to remain where they were. “Inside, doctors and nurses worked to maintain care while prioritizing safety.”

A large law enforcement response followed, including patrol units, SWAT teams, ATF agents, drones, and canine units. Streets around the hospital were closed, and nearby neighborhoods and schools were advised to shelter in place. Police conducted a floor-by-floor sweep and later stated the incident “appeared to be a targeted workplace dispute, not a random attack,” confirming there was no ongoing threat.

Hospital leaders announced counseling for staff and enhanced security measures. Community support arrived as families waited anxiously outside. Officials emphasized that “though only one person was physically injured,” the lasting emotional toll highlights concerns about workplace violence in healthcare and the need for continued focus on safety, mental health support, and recovery for all affected.
