The 14-year-olds became Britain’s youngest parents

In 2010, April Webster and Nathan Fishbourne became the youngest parents in the UK. April became pregnant at just 13, and by the time their son Jamie was born, both parents were 14. Their story quickly made national headlines, drawing shock, debate, and intense public attention.

The couple met as classmates at St Cenydd School in Caerphilly, South Wales. What began as a teenage relationship took an unexpected turn when April discovered she was pregnant just one day before her 14th birthday. The news stunned both families and pushed the young couple into the spotlight at an age when most teenagers are focused on school and friends.

April later explained that she had not told her parents about the relationship because she felt “too embarrassed.” She and Nathan also admitted they took no precautions, saying they had tried contraception once, but Nathan did not like it. These revelations fueled public discussion about responsibility, education, and support for young teens.

Nathan’s parents initially reacted with anger. His father, Ron, spoke openly about his feelings at the time, saying, “I had a real go at him and told him he had been stupid.” However, the family ultimately chose acceptance over rejection.

Ron made it clear that Jamie would be welcomed, adding, “But we can’t undo what has happened and will now accept Jamie into our family. There’s no way we’ll turn our backs on him.”
