Early Wednesday, a passenger bus (unit 9132) traveling from Ciudad Acuña to Gómez Palacio, Durango, overturned along Highway 57 near kilometer 68, leaving “at least one person dead and several others injured — including a child now fighting for his life.”
Among the critically injured is a minor named Jairo, who was rushed to Clinic 7 of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Monclova. Doctors describe his condition as “delicate,” while at least five other passengers suffered injuries of varying severity. Families have gathered at hospitals, anxiously waiting for updates.
Authorities are investigating the cause, speaking with survivors and gathering evidence at the scene. “Investigators remain on-scene, gathering evidence and speaking with survivors to piece together the moments leading up to the crash.” The investigation aims to clarify how the bus lost control and prevent future tragedies.
The bus accident followed another crash on Tuesday night around 10 p.m. on the Gómez Palacio–Cuencamé Highway near Raymundo Park in Lerdo, Durango. A vehicle collided with a light pole and concrete base, rolling over. Emergency crews responded quickly, though “the extent of the injuries from that incident is still being confirmed.”
These incidents have left communities in Coahuila and Durango on edge, emphasizing the risks of overnight and high-speed travel. Families “wait, hoping the next call brings relief instead of more sorrow” as authorities continue their investigations.
