Shortly after “4:20 a.m. on November 23, 2025,” gunfire broke the early-morning calm in South St. Cloud. Police were called to the “800-block of 8th Avenue South,” where they found two people injured. A 44-year-old had been shot twice, and a 55-year-old was hurt with a blunt object after trying to intervene. Both victims were taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Officers arrived within minutes, secured the scene, and recovered a handgun nearby. A brief foot chase followed, ending with the arrest of 31-year-old Austin Gerads of St. Cloud. Authorities said quick police response, witness statements, and nearby surveillance footage helped lead to the arrest.
Police emphasized there was “no ongoing threat to the public,” reassuring residents after the incident. The shooting happened in a mixed residential area close to St. Cloud State University, an area usually quiet at that hour.
Although few people were outside, neighbors reported hearing arguments, gunshots, and running footsteps. Soon after, flashing lights filled the street as officers closed off the block to investigate. The case remains under review as authorities continue gathering details about what led to the violence.
