A deadly traffic accident on Tuesday night (13) on BR-251, near Grão Mogol in northern Minas Gerais, left nine people dead and 12 injured after a head-on collision between a van and a truck. The crash triggered a large emergency response and sparked national concern.
According to preliminary findings by the Civil Police of Minas Gerais, the truck crossed into the opposite lane and struck the van, which was carrying workers returning to Ceará. Authorities say this maneuver directly led to the collision.
Forensic specialist Hugo Leonardo explained that physical evidence played a key role in the initial assessment. Tire marks, drag marks, and grooves in the asphalt were analyzed, and he stated that this evidence “was a determining factor” in reaching the early conclusion.
Investigators stressed that the case is still under review. While the initial findings are considered strong, officials cautioned that they remain preliminary and subject to confirmation through further technical examinations.
As the investigation continues, families of the victims wait for clear answers. Authorities emphasized that the focus remains on accountability, improving road safety, and ensuring measures are taken to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
