Macaulay Culkin shared an emotional Instagram tribute to his Home Alone co-star Catherine O’Hara following her death at age 71. In a deeply personal caption, he wrote: “Mama. I thought we had time… I love you. I’ll see you later.” His words reflected a bond that went far beyond their roles on screen.
O’Hara famously played Kate McCallister, the mother of Culkin’s Kevin McCallister, in Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. The role helped launch Culkin’s career and made their on-screen relationship one of the most recognizable in family films.
The two reunited publicly in December 2023, when Culkin received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. O’Hara spoke warmly about his childhood fame and the challenges that came with it, asking, “How does anyone survive that?” She credited his resilience to humor, calling it “a sign of intelligence in a child, and a key to surviving life at any age.”
She continued by praising how he carried that humor forward, saying he brought “this sweet, yet twisted, yet totally relatable sense of humor to everything that you have chosen to do since ‘Home Alone.’” Her words highlighted both his talent and personal growth.
O’Hara ended her speech with affection and humor: “Thank you for including me — your fake mom who left you home alone not once, but twice… I’m so proud of you.” Culkin wiped away tears as they embraced, a moment now remembered as a touching farewell to a cherished friendship.
