An ordinary Thursday morning quickly turned into chaos when gunfire erupted around 7:08 a.m. in a hospital parking garage near Detroit. Fear spread rapidly as people realized the situation involved a workplace shooting, turning a calm start to the day into confusion and panic.
Authorities confirmed the suspect was an employee who intentionally targeted a coworker. The 25-year-old victim was “struck twice in the arm” and rushed to the emergency department, where he was treated and reported in stable condition. Officials emphasized the attack was not random, but a focused act between individuals.
The hospital responded immediately by activating emergency protocols and placing the entire facility on lockdown. Staff and patients were told to “shelter in place,” while visitors stayed where they were as police secured the area. A large response followed, including SWAT teams, drones, canine units, and federal agents, while nearby roads and neighborhoods were also placed under precautionary restrictions.
Inside, normal operations were disrupted. Procedures were postponed, and staff worked to calm patients despite the uncertainty. Many described the situation as “disorienting and emotionally intense,” as fear and confusion spread throughout the building during the lockdown.
By midday, the suspect had been taken into custody, and officials confirmed there was “no ongoing threat to the public.” Restrictions were lifted, and activity slowly resumed. Although only one person was physically injured, the emotional impact was widespread, highlighting concerns about workplace violence in healthcare and the need for stronger safety measures, mental health support, and recovery for those affected.
