The Oscar-winning actor from “An Officer and a Gentleman” has died at the age of 87.

Louis Gossett Jr., the groundbreaking actor known for his roles in *An Officer and a Gentleman* and *Roots*, passed away at 87. He made history as the first Black man to win an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, a major milestone in Hollywood. His career spanned over 200 projects, with 12 more in development, though sadly, he won’t see them completed.

Gossett passed away on March 28, 2024, in Santa Monica, California, due to COPD, with heart failure and atrial fibrillation as contributing factors.

Despite facing racism and struggles with drug and alcohol addiction, he persevered, leaving a lasting legacy in the entertainment world. Gossett is survived by his two children, Satie and Sharron, and will be remembered for his resilience and achievements.
