At 69, Denzel Washington has confirmed the heartbreaking rumors

Denzel Washington recently announced several upcoming projects, surprising fans by revealing that he’ll reprise his role as Othello—a part he first played at age 22. “I’m about to play Othello at 70,” the two-time Oscar winner shared.

In addition to this, Washington hinted at working with directors Steve McQueen and Ryan Coogler. Coogler, known for the Black Panther films, is reportedly creating a role specifically for Washington in the franchise’s next installment. Washington also mentioned other potential roles, including King Lear, before adding, “After that, I’m going to retire.”

Washington’s career began in 1977 with the TV movie *Wilma*, and he made his feature debut in *Carbon Copy* (1981). Over the decades, he has delivered iconic performances in films like *Glory*, *Training Day*, and *Malcolm X*, earning immense respect and numerous awards for his work.

Earlier this year, Washington expressed interest in *Gladiator II*, saying, “There are very few films left for me to make that I’m interested in, and I have to be inspired by the filmmaker.”

With these upcoming projects, Washington continues to captivate audiences while hinting at a well-deserved retirement.
