Three college students killed in Bay Area Cybertruck crash identified

Three college students were killed, and a fourth was hospitalized following a fiery Cybertruck crash in Piedmont, California, early Wednesday. All were 2023 graduates of Piedmont High School, home for Thanksgiving. A passerby rescued the lone survivor before the vehicle became “fully engulfed in flames,” Piedmont police reported. Tragically, the fire prevented rescuers from reaching the other occupants.

Jack Nelson, a sophomore at the University of Colorado, Boulder, died at the scene. His family described him as “a loving and fiercely loyal friend” who wore his faith proudly through a cross. Soren Dixon, a USC biological sciences student and lacrosse player, was remembered for his “ability to make everyone feel welcomed and valued.” Krysta Tsukahara, a sophomore at Savannah College of Art and Design, was noted for her “kind heart and incredible eye for style and design.”

The crash occurred at Hampton Road and King Avenue after 3 a.m., with a cellphone alert notifying authorities. Piedmont police said the Cybertruck “jumped a curb,” hitting a tree and retaining wall, which destroyed the vehicle’s front. Chief Jeremy Bowers indicated speed was likely a factor.

Families mourn the students’ untimely deaths, highlighting their compassion, talents, and friendships that left lasting impressions.

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
