High-Ranking Democrat Betrays AOC, Works to Sabotage Leadership Bid

The Democratic Party is deciding who will succeed Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) as the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee. Raskin is vying for a leadership role on the Judiciary Committee, leaving the influential Oversight position open.

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), 84, is reportedly working to block Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), 35, from taking the spot. Instead, Pelosi supports Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA), 74, according to Punchbowl News. Sources say Pelosi has been “making calls” to colleagues, urging them to back Connolly, emphasizing his experience and steady leadership.

Connolly, in Congress since 2009, is considered a seasoned and pragmatic choice. Ocasio-Cortez, a prominent progressive and member of “The Squad,” represents a younger, more combative faction often at odds with Pelosi’s leadership style.

The competition reflects broader party dynamics. Pelosi’s support for Connolly underscores her preference for established figures, while Ocasio-Cortez’s bid signals the growing influence of progressive voices in the party.

Interestingly, House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) has praised Ocasio-Cortez, calling her “very well-spoken” and suggesting she could handle the role effectively, despite her differences with party elders.
