Amid the Los Angeles wildfires, the business tycoon shares how the ‘miracle’ property remained completely ‘untouched’

Among the properties destroyed in the devastating Palisades fire in Los Angeles, David Steiner’s $9 million home miraculously remained untouched. Over 20,000 acres have burned, with more than 5,000 structures destroyed, including homes, businesses, and landmarks.

Steiner, a retired waste-management businessman, feared the worst when a contractor warned him on January 7 that his house was likely doomed. “He saw my neighbor’s house going down and told me, ‘It looks like your house is going too,’” Steiner shared. Surprisingly, his home survived, even as the flames consumed nearby properties.

Authorities suspect the Kenneth fire, which also threatens Calabasas and Hidden Hills, was intentionally set by a man seen riding a bicycle with a torch. Locals detained him until police arrived. Among the victims are celebrities like Anna Faris, Eugene Levy, and Paris Hilton, who lost their homes.

Steiner attributes his home’s survival to its design, describing it as having “cruise ship-like construction” with stucco and a fireproof roof. “It’s ultra-sturdy and built to withstand earthquakes,” he explained. Despite the relief, Steiner remained empathetic, saying, “We need to pray for those who lost their homes. It’s just a property for me, not my memories.”

His wife’s message, “Last house standing,” brought a smile amid the tragedy.
