Doctors warn of little-known cancer symptom you can see on your toenails

Doctors warn that changes in your toenails or fingernails might signal cancer, specifically subungual melanoma. “Doctors have shared the little-known signs you can look out for on your toe and fingernails which may be an indicator of a type of cancer.” This rare skin cancer forms under or around nails, often without sun exposure. It usually affects the thumb, big toe, or index finger and is more common in people aged 50-70, particularly African-American, Asian, or Hispanic individuals.

Key signs include dark streaks on nails, darkened skin around nails, nails lifting or splitting, and bumps or unusual bands of color. AADA dermatologists urge people to see a dermatologist if they notice any changes.

For support, contact the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345 or their 24/7 live chat. Early detection is vital for managing this serious condition.
