WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump will again withdraw the U.S. from the Paris climate accord, the White House announced Monday, removing the world’s top historic emitter from global climate efforts. This places the U.S. alongside Iran, Libya, and Yemen as the only nations outside the 2015 agreement to limit warming to 1.5°C.
Trump, skeptical of climate change, sees this move as freeing U.S. oil and gas drillers to maximize output. Despite this, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres remains optimistic, urging U.S. cities, states, and businesses to lead on low-carbon growth, which she says is essential to creating quality jobs and addressing climate change.
