Donald Trump, in his first 24 hours as the 47th U.S. president, signed 25 executive orders, including one affirming “there are only two genders” and several restricting migrant entry and citizenship. Mariann Edgar Budde urged Trump to show “mercy” to LGBTQ+ individuals and immigrants, saying, “There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children… who fear for their lives,” and highlighting migrants’ contributions. She asked Trump to aid those fleeing war and persecution.
