‘A big relief’: NC residents describe meeting with Trump after feeling ‘ignored’ post-hurricane

Curtis A. Wright and Amber Wright, residents of North Carolina, met President Trump during his visit to the state following Hurricane Helene’s devastation. Curtis expressed frustration, stating that North Carolinians felt “ignored” and that Trump’s visit was a “big relief.”

The Wrights lost “everything they own,” including farm equipment, and are seeking fair insurance evaluations to rebuild. Curtis praised Samaritan’s Purse for their help, but emphasized the need for FEMA to improve, stating, “FEMA has really let us down.”

Trump, critical of FEMA, promised reform and support for cleanup efforts, noting that half of the debris recovery is incomplete. Amber described their post-hurricane life as a “true nightmare,” struggling day by day with uncertain rebuilding prospects.

Hurricane Helene, which struck in September, caused over 100 deaths and significant damage, with FEMA calling the flooding “historic.”
