A proposed bill by Rep. Andy Ogles could allow Donald Trump to serve a third term, extending his presidency until 2032. Ogles argued, “President Trump’s decisive leadership…must be given the time necessary to accomplish that goal.” The amendment would change the 22nd Amendment, permitting three terms but restricting those who served two consecutive terms, like Barack Obama, from running again.

Ogles proposed the amendment’s wording to read: “No person shall be elected…more than three times, nor…after being elected to two consecutive terms.” This would also bar former presidents like George W. Bush and Bill Clinton from eligibility.

Experts doubt its success. Mark Shanahan told Newsweek: “A Constitutional Amendment requires a Supermajority in both houses…this is just wishful thinking.” The GOP’s slim Congressional majority makes passage unlikely, leaving the proposal more symbolic than practical.
