Donald Trump’s alleged conversation with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen about buying Greenland has drawn criticism. Despite Denmark’s clear stance that Greenland is not for sale, Trump reportedly had a “fiery” and “horrendous” 45-minute call with Frederiksen, described as aggressive and confrontational. One official said it was “serious and potentially very dangerous.”

Trump called Greenland’s acquisition an “absolute necessity” for national security, claiming it would “benefit tremendously” under U.S. ownership. Frederiksen reiterated Greenland’s stance that it’s not for sale, supported by its citizens and Prime Minister Mute Egede, who seeks independence from Denmark but rejects U.S. control.

Greenlandic MP Aaja Chemnitz criticized the idea as “disrespectful,” reflecting local opposition. Trump first floated the idea in his previous term, while his son, Donald Trump Jr., recently visited Greenland, calling it a personal trip without official meetings.
