Why newly proposed bill would let Trump run for a third term but not Obama

Rep. Andy Ogles has proposed a bill to amend the 22nd Amendment, allowing Donald Trump to seek a third presidential term. Ogles claims Trump needs “eight years to restore America to greatness” and reverse its decline. The amendment would also block former Presidents Obama, Bush, and Clinton from running again.

The proposal introduces a rule allowing three presidential terms, provided no one serves two consecutive terms. However, experts see the bill as unlikely to succeed due to the supermajority required in Congress.

Mark Shanahan, a political expert, dismissed it as “wishful thinking,” emphasizing the constitutional and political obstacles. The bill reflects Ogles’ loyalty to Trump but faces steep challenges.
