Selena Gomez is trending again after posting an emotional video on Instagram about new U.S. immigration policies. “All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t,” she said tearfully. She promised to “try everything” but didn’t specify further.
The video sparked mixed reactions. Some accused her of making the issue about herself. “She’s so annoying,” one user wrote. Another added, “This isn’t the time for performative tears, it’s about real lives being affected.” Critics suggested she should use her platform to share resources or donate.
Others defended her. “Y’all just hate it cuz it’s Selena, girlie just cares,” one person commented. Another asked, “Oh, so showing sympathy is now ‘making it about myself’?”
The backlash led Gomez to delete the video, later posting, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people,” before deleting that too.
Gomez has long spoken about immigration, even sharing her family’s story in Netflix’s Living Undocumented (2019).
