Man who burnt thumb while cooking shocked to wake up and find both his legs needed to be amputated

Max Armstrong Loses Legs After Minor Burn Incident

Max Armstrong, 40, lost both legs after a camping accident in Kiowa, Colorado. While cooking pasta, he accidentally burned his thumb on a hot skillet. “I didn’t think much of it,” he said, as minor injuries were common for him. After cleaning and bandaging the wound, his leg began swelling, but he initially dismissed the pain. By December 7, “my toenails started turning purple, and the swelling had increased,” prompting a hospital visit. Despite his outdoor experience, the injury led to severe complications, ultimately costing him both legs.
