Fans were eagerly anticipating Angie Stone to take the stage this weekend. Instead, heartbreaking news has left them mourning an unexpected tragedy.
Grammy-nominated R&B singer Angie Stone died at 63 in a car crash on March 1. The accident occurred around 4 a.m. while she was returning to Atlanta from Alabama. Music producer Walter Millsap III revealed that Stone’s vehicle flipped and was hit by a big rig. While others survived, Stone did not.
Her daughter, Diamond, confirmed the news on Facebook, writing, “My mommy is gone,” followed by crying emojis.
Stone was set to perform at the CIAA men’s championship basketball game halftime show. CIAA Chaplain Pastor Jerome Barber led a moment of silence in her honor.
CIAA Commissioner Jacqie McWilliams-Parker praised Stone, saying she inspired others with her “talent, passion, and presence.”
